Which email address should we send this to?
In our, how long does it take to rank in Google post, we talked about investing time and money into creating your ideal website (or even landing page).
We used data-driven information from reputable sources that gave you a realistic look at how long it would take to rank your page or website.
The conclusion was that it could take 3-6 months using advanced tactics.
I know some of you guys are thinking, that’s too long to wait!
You need to be generating leads for your company…yesterday!
And that using “advanced tactics” comes at a cost, and usually at a higher rate.
When you’re business is at startup phase, you may be inclined to scrimp on certain business needs by opting for cheaper alternatives.
If you decide to avoid huge advertisement costs and generate leads from organic traffic, you’ll want to avoid opting for cheaper SEO alternatives.
It can be very tempting to use SEO companies that offer “quick, easy and cheap” results, to save your business some cash. But like everything else in the world, you get what you pay for!
If you pay for cheap website design, you’ll get a cheaply designed website.
Same goes for SEO, if you pay for cheap SEO services, you’ll get cheap results.
Cheap SEO campaigns can consist of Black Hat techniques to get you ranked as high as possible and in the least amount of time.
Although this sounds pretty tempting, these techniques can be extremely damaging for a website and organic lead generation in the long-term.
If you don’t play by Google’s rules, it’s becoming more and more inevitable that your website will be hit with penalties at some point.
Which can put you in a position of finding it very difficult to get rankings again for a long time.
The following showcases the ugly truth about cheap SEO and why you should avoid it.
If Google were a movie actor, it would be Liam Neeson in Taken!
Back in 2012, anybody could create a website.
And if you wanted to get your shiny new website ranked, all you needed to do was “stuff” your web content with as many keywords as possible.
Regardless of whether the content was readable or not, if you teamed this with some high-volume, low-quality (cheap) link building, you had a good chance of appearing on the first page of Google within a few weeks.
Google realized what was happening and started investing millions of dollars worth of time and research creating algorithm updates that could identify these black hat techniques.
They also put together a highly skilled team of their very own Liam Neesons!
Their job is to find out if you are applying these techniques, hunt you down (virtually!) and heavily penalize your website.
Unfortunately, (and unbelievably) there are some SEOs out there still trying to push these techiques onto unsuspecting customers, with the lure of cheap prices.
And while they are “technically” doing SEO, it has a much bigger chance of hurting your site rather then helping it.
So, if you do decide to opt for cheap SEO services from a company, just be weary of this and proceed with caution…
If an SEO company promises you they can guarantee to get you ranked, in a very short time (like 30, 60 or even 90 days)…
…this should set off alarm bells!
There are no shortcuts in SEO.
As we mentioned in that earlier post, if you want to rank a website on page one of Google (especially if it is new) you’ll need to play the long game to reap the rewards that SEO can bring.
Unfortunately, we are a generation of consumers who want everything instantly!
And investing money into something you won’t see results from, for the first 3 months, can be daunting.
But investing in clean, well executed, White Hat SEO services, WILL result in your business reaping the benefits of organic lead generation as time goes by.
And you may never have to invest in paid advertising (depending on your web traffic).
Going with the cheaper alternative SEO services can have you paying a lot more than you initially invested to have the damages to your website repaired.
And that’s if the damage is actually repairable.
Google can give manual action penalties, which allows you to clean up your site and practices to be re-submitted for re-evaluation.
But if your SEO “guru,” fails to act on these penalties, Google can lose their patience and completely remove you from Google search permanently.
The reason a lot of these SEO consultants can offer you cheap packages is that they use cheap automated tools and software.
These tools and software can generate blog posts and content automatically.
When your site visitors/customers see these unrelated comments, they’ll know something isn’t quite right and they’ll bounce.
The backlinks generated from these tools and software are also usually spammy.
Google can identify these quite easily.
These type of links can be extremely damaging to your website.
Once your site’s SEO has been damaged, the time it takes to repair your website will be significantly longer than if you had invested in professional SEO services from the beginning.
Not only that, but the cost of repairing the damage done will now be higher.
And that’s not including the cost of the initial “cheap” SEO that did the damage in the first place!
Whether you’re investing in web content, a website build, logo design or SEO, the same principle applies.
If you decide to bootstrap and go cheap, then cheap is what you’ll get.
Sometimes companies get lucky and find an SEO “specialist” that’ll achieve excellent results for cheap prices.
But they’re one in a million!
The potential costs you end up paying versus the initial investment to have your SEO done by a reputable company.
It’s just not worth the risk.
If you’ve gone the cheap route already or you’re worried that the damage may have already been done…
…your website can still be repaired.
